The Planning Division of the Community Development Department provides the citizens of Dana Point with an array of current and advanced planning services. Primary responsibilities of the Planning Division include the review of private and public development projects in conformance with established policy and regulations and the administration and update of the City’s General Plan, assuring that it reflects community values and state statutes. Advanced planning projects include the Town Center Plan and the City's General Plan and Zoning Code update programs. Planning also carries out the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the California Coastal Act, and the Subdivision Map Act. The Planning Division is directly responsible for providing staff support to the City’s Planning Commission.
