November 3, 2026 - General Municipal Election

Nomination Period

The nomination period for the November 2026 election is estimated to open in July 2026 and closed August 2026.  Exact dates of the nomination period will be issued by the County of Orange Registrar of Voters.  

Nomination documents are issued by and filed with the City Clerk only during the nomination period by appointment during regular business hours at Dana Point City Hall, 33282 Golden Lantern, Suite 203.  For more information, please call Shayna Sharke at (949) 248-3505 or email ssharke@danapoint.org. 

A candidate is not eligible to appear on the ballot until their nomination papers have been filed with the City Clerk and the submitted signatures have been verified as sufficient. Candidates are listed in the order they pulled papers, from earliest to latest.

Prior to the Nomination Period, potential candidates may file the Fair Political Practices Commission Candidate Intention Statement with the City Clerk's office and may establish a Campaign Committee by filing through the Secretary of State with a copy filed to the City Clerk's office.  To access these forms, please visit the FPPC website.
