EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS EVACUATION ZONES
In our 2018 community survey, 83% of those surveyed felt preparing the City for emergencies was very or extremely important. The City of Dana Point is pleased to announce a new program to prepare our community in the event we have an emergency that requires evacuations. The Evacuation Zone Program is a program in which geographic zones have been created by neighborhood for the purposes of emergency management and orderly evacuation of Dana Point. Evacuation zones are coded by letter, A-M. In the event of an emergency a particular zone(s) may be placed under an evacuation warning or under an evacuation order. One of the program goals was to study how to evacuate zones in a sequence that keeps traffic moving efficiently and allows for an orderly exit of an area. During evacuation warnings and orders, you should leave immediately and seek shelter outside all evacuation zones.
In addition to the creation of the evacuation zones, the City is also distributing door hangers for each residence. The door hanger is to be used when you evacuate your home to inform first responders if you are still in your home and need help, or if you have left the premises. This allows for greater efficiency when emergency crews are in the area and working to clear neighborhoods in immediate danger. Door hangers will be distributed as a CR&R bill insert and are available at City Hall.
