Recreation Activities

The Community Services Division of the Community Services & Parks Department creates community through people, parks and programs by providing recreational and cultural arts programs for all to enjoy.  We offer a wide variety of services for toddlers to seniors.  The operation focuses on providing passive and active activities designed to meet the growing leisure service demand.  Some of the ongoing programs include contractual classes, adult and youth sport leagues, summer youth camps, trips and special events throughout the year. 

The Community Services office is located at the Dana Point Community Center, 34052 Del Obispo St., Dana Point.  For the convenience of our customers, we offer extended office hours, Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  You may reach us by phone at (949) 248-3530.

Registration accepted in the following ways:

Walk-In Registration - Dana Point Community Center, 34052 Del Obispo St., Dana Point. Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Mail-In Registration - Mail completed registration form and payment to:  City of Dana Point Community Services and Parks Department, 34052 Del Obispo St. Dana Point, CA 92629.  To download a registration form for classes click here.  Method of Payment: Check payable to "City of Dana Point." We do not accept debit or credit card payment.   

GENERAL REGISTRATION INFORMATION 

  • All courses are subject to cancelation or schedule change.
  • Customers are not permitted to register and sign the Agreement, Waiver and Release form for non family members. 
  • Preregistration is required, no later than one business day before the first class date. 
  • Class registration can not be accepted at class by the instructor.
  • Spaces are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Should the class be filled, we will notify you and place your name on a wait list, and return your payment.
  • Registration confirmation will be sent via e-mail, or you may supply a self-addressed stamped envelope and we will mail you confirmation. 

REFUNDS 

City Canceled Class - When classes are canceled by the City an automatic full refund will be issued.  Please allow up to 3 weeks for the City to mail out the refund check.  You also have the option of a "Fun Bucks" full credit on your customer account for future use. 

Customer Cancellation- To drop a course, contact the Recreation Supervisor during normal business hours at (949) 248-3533 or email smurphy@danapoint.org.  Refunds by check are subject to a $10 withdrawal fee.  Refunds for excursions will not be granted unless your spot can be filled from an established waiting list. Cancellation requests received after the class has started will be based upon a pro-rated refund, plus a withdrawal fee of $10.  No refunds will be granted after the class has ended. 

ADULT & YOUTH SPORT LEAGUES

The City offers both youth and adult sport leagues throughout the year.  Youth Basketball for ages 6-9 years starts in December of each year, with registration beginning in early August.  Adult sport leagues consist of Co-Ed Kickball, Co-Ed Softball and Co-Ed Chicago Ball.  Leauges start in July and registration is currently underway.  For more information on the adult league registration click here.  To download a registration form click here.  Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Registration accepted in person at the Dana Point Community Center, 34052 Del Obispo or by mail to the same address.  For additional Adult or Youth League information contact Recreation Coordinator Kolleen Wallace at kwallace@danapoint.org.

MOVIES IN THE PARK 

Movie Projector  

The City of Dana Point is proud to present our new Movies in the Park series.  Join us each Friday in June at Lantern Bay Park, 24111 Park Lantern Road,  for family friendly movies under the stars.  Introduce your family to the feel of the old time drive-in movies, except with lawn chairs and blankets!  The event is FREE!  Movies start at approximately 8:00p.m.  For the Movies in the Park flyer click here.  For additional information email smurphy@danapoint.org. or call (949) 248-3530. 

 SUMMER CONCERTS IN THE PARK

Steel Parade Country Group Brian Lynn Jones & The Misfit Cowboys Two Audience Members

Join us each Sunday, beginning June 21st - through August 30th, from 4:00pm-6:30pm for the annual Summer Concert Series.  Enjoy an afternoon of music, sunshine and a great view of Dana Point Harbor from Heritage Park and Lantern Bay Park.  First eight concerts are at Heritage Park, last two at Lantern Bay Park.  No concert held on the 4th of July weekend.  For the Concert in the Park flyer click here.  For additional information email smurphy@danapoint.org or call (949) 248-3530. 

4th OF JULY FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA!

Don't miss one of South Orange County's best aerial fireworks displays right here in your own back yard!  Gather your family and friends, tune your radio to KSBR 88.5 FM, look toward the skies over Doheny State Beach and experience this patriotic extravaganza.  The fireworks are synchronized to a captivating musical score.  Free shuttle bus service from Dana Hills High School, 33333 St. of the Golden Lantern, to the harbor will be running from 10:00am to 11:30pm, with the last bus leaving the harbor at 11:00pm.  Parking in the harbor generally fills very early and personal vehicle access to the harbor closes at 7:30pm. 

FIREWORKS CRUISE

This event is co-sponsored by Dana Wharf Sport Fishing.  See the fireworks and beautiful harbor lights from the ocean on the sport fishing boat Sum Fun!  Refreshments are provided; bring a folding chair if you wish to sit.  Boat boards at 7:30pm and returns at approximately 10:00pm. EXCURSIONS

The City of Dana Point Community Services & Parks Department offers trips throughout the year.  All trips depart from the Dana Point Community Center located at 34052 Del Obispo St., Dana Point. Deluxe bus accommodations included.  Refunds will not be granted for trips unless we can fill your spot from an established wait list.  If so a $10 processing fee will be assessed.  Please arrive at the Community Center 20 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. For more information email smurphy@danapoint.org or call (949) 248-3530. 

Griffith Park Observatory
GRIFFITH PARK OBSERVATORY/Farmer's Market LA 

Tuesday, August 11th - 8:30am - 6:30pm

The Griffith Park Observatory has been a major Los Angeles landmark since 1935.  It recently completed a $93 million expansion and renovation project renewing the Observatory's world-class standing and restored its ability to pursue its public astronomy mission.  Admission to the Planetarium Show is additional and must be purchased by guests upon arrival at the Observatory.  Planetarium Shows available are:  Water is Life (12:45pm) and Centered in the Universe (1:45pm or 2:45pm).  For more information on the shows visit http://www.griffithobservatory.org  Trip includes a morning stop at the famous Farmer's Market on 3rd and Fairfax in LA for shopping, breakfast or an early lunch, no-host.  We'll depart the Farmer's Market at 11:00am for a short ride to the Observatory.  Fee:  $25 per person.  To register click here for a registration form.  Mail form and payment (made payable to City of Dana Point) to:  City of Dana Point, 345052 Del Obispo, Dana Point, CA 92629.
