Did you know that thefts from unlocked cars are by far the most common crime in Dana Point?

Maybe you have personally been a victim of theft, or know someone that has. These crimes are stickerperhaps among the easiest to prevent and we want to help you do just that!

With that in mind, Dana Point Police Services has launched a public-awareness campaign called “Hide It, Lock It, Or Lose It” to help remind residents to secure their belongings and help reduce property crime. This has become the familiar slogan for the campaign, which has established a website under that name to share statistics, and get the word out about involvement opportunities to help reduce crime. A special campaign targeted at young adults in the community uses the tagline “Shwazooki” – a slang term that means to stash your valuables.

Our goal is to use this campaign to educate our potential victims, who leave their vehicles, garages, and even their homes unlocked and unattended, to simply lock their doors. We would love the opportunity to visit your communities or businesses and share this important information with as many citizens as we can. Talk to your neighbors, talk to your co-workers and help us get the word out!
